Poker is a card game played by two or more players. The goal is to form the best possible five-card hand based on the rank of the cards, in order to win the pot at the end of each betting round. Players place bets into the pot, called raising, and may replace cards in their hand if they wish.<\/p>\n
There are many variants of poker, but most games have the same basic rules. One or more players are required to make forced bets, usually the ante and\/or blind bets, and the dealer then shuffles the cards and deals them out to each player in turn, beginning with the player on their left. The cards are dealt either face-up or face-down, depending on the game variant.<\/p>\n
In most cases, each player has two personal cards and 5 community cards to use to create a poker hand. A winning hand is comprised of a high card, pair or straight. A high card is the highest value card in your hand, while a pair or straight is a combination of cards of equal value.<\/p>\n
The art of poker is knowing how to play your hands and read your opponents. Observe your opponents’ behavior, especially when they are not involved in the current hand, and watch for tells, which are unconscious habits that reveal information about a person’s emotions or strength of their hand.
